Can We Go Sailing?
Huge Cockpit

The Purchase

We purchased our Slipper 17 "Huff N Puff" in March of 2002 from our friend Jim Leet at Marine Concepts. We bought her to complement the capabilities of our existing SeaPearl 21. We wanted a nice large cockpit for hauling friends and the stability that comes with her marvelously beamy shape. Of course there is Don Casey's recommendation to buy a boat that you find beautiful. I always smile when I look at the Slipper, and I know that I am not the only one.

While her hull and sails were in great shape she needed a bit of updating to bring her up to her full potential.

Owner's Manual

I received an original Owner's Manual (fan-fold paper, dot matrix printed) when I purchased our boat. The builder managed to cram a lot of good information in the four letter size pages. I have transcribed and reformatted the document here for those that might like to refer to it.

A summary might be, "Sail her on her lines, and she will surprise you". Like many smaller boats, too much weight in the stern can ruin performance.

2002 Upgrades

Since circumstances combined to prevent many sailing adventures, I had to satisfy myself with a little fixem up. Fortunately she lives on her trailer, in the backyard under a canopy. Here is the list for 2002. Follow the links for more details on the individual projects. p3
