The following are a few of my
Maritime antiques and curiousities that I have collected. Have fun looking about.
Russian CHO-T Sextant
This device is a Russian knockoff of an early sixties East German Freiberger
Drum Sextant. It came equipped with a inverting , magnifying scope with cross hairs used
for sun sights, and a normal (short) non-inverting scope. This sextant is very
similar to current production Freiberger models and can utilize many of the accessories. Comments
found on the internet have very positive evaluations of this device, and this may
be one of the most affordable "real" sextants available.
I don't have much history on this emergency navigation set produced in the
the 1940's . The hardshell case contains a simple lifeboat sextant,
instruction manual, dividers, parallel rule, pencils and eraser. The
sextant is very much like the currently producted Davis Mark III model.
This is an example of the some of the great stuff you can stumble across on EBAY!
It appears to be a 60's/70's vintage instrument. The case is nicely dovetailed
and allows you to peek in and get a reading while the door is closed. There is
a rear panel remote control for the compass light. The unit has a very pleasing
heft, and the prism makes course readings very easy. All for $25 plus shipping.
